About
At Slow Rhythm Studio, we believe that meaningful growth begins with connection.
Through evidence-based Music Therapy, we support individuals and families to strengthen relationships, build confidence, develop skills, and nurture wellbeing through the power of music. Whether supporting a parent and infant, a child with developmental needs, or an adult working towards personal goals, our approach is warm, compassionate and tailored to each person's unique journey.
Founded by Meiwa, Registered Music Therapist, Neurologic Music Therapist and professional musician, Slow Rhythm Studio combines clinical expertise with the deeply human experience of making music together.
How is Music Therapy Different from Music Lessons?
While both involve music, the purpose and outcomes are very different.
Music Lessons
The primary goal of a music lesson is to learn a musical skill, such as singing, piano, guitar or music theory. Success is measured by musical progress and performance development.
Music Therapy
The primary goal of Music Therapy is to support health, wellbeing and functional outcomes.
Music becomes the tool—not the goal.
A Music Therapy session may involve singing, instrument playing, movement, improvisation, songwriting or listening to music, but these experiences are carefully adapted to support therapeutic goals such as communication, emotional regulation, motor skills, social connection, confidence or parent–infant bonding.
No musical experience, talent or prior training is required to benefit from Music Therapy.
What is Music Therapy?
Music Therapy is an evidence-based allied health profession that uses music intentionally and therapeutically to support health, wellbeing and meaningful life outcomes.
Delivered by a qualified Registered Music Therapist, Music Therapy can support communication, emotional regulation, social connection, learning, development, motor skills, self-expression and quality of life across the lifespan.
Music has a unique ability to engage multiple areas of the brain and body simultaneously. Through rhythm, melody, movement and shared musical experiences, Music Therapy can create opportunities for growth, connection and participation in ways that are often engaging, accessible and deeply meaningful.
At Slow Rhythm Studio, every session is tailored to the individual's strengths, interests and goals.
What is Neurologic Music Therapy?
Neurologic Music Therapy® (NMT) is a specialised, research-based approach to Music Therapy grounded in neuroscience and the understanding of how the brain processes music.
NMT uses specific therapeutic techniques to support cognitive, communication, sensory and motor functioning. Because music activates widespread neural networks throughout the brain, it can be used to strengthen skills such as attention, movement, coordination, speech, memory and emotional regulation.
At Slow Rhythm Studio, Neurologic Music Therapy techniques are integrated where appropriate to support meaningful functional outcomes while maintaining a person-centred and relationship-focused approach.
The transition into parenthood can be one of life's most profound and transformative experiences. It can also bring challenges, uncertainty, exhaustion and significant emotional change.
Maternal and Parent–Infant Music Therapy supports families throughout pregnancy, the postpartum period, NICU experiences and early parenthood. Sessions use music to nurture wellbeing, strengthen attachment, support co-regulation and create opportunities for meaningful connection between parent and baby.
Services may support:
-
Pregnancy and birth preparation
